According to Syria’s state news agency SANA, the flag-raising ceremony took place at the embassy residence in the Abu Rummaneh district of the capital. Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani attended the event, along with Thomas Barrack, Thomas J. Barrack, the US Ambassador to Türkiye and Washington’s Special Envoy for Syria, who hoisted the flag. The ceremony was held as part of the formal reopening of the US diplomatic residence in the Syrian capital. The US Embassy in Damascus suspended operations in 2012 due to escalating security concerns during the country’s civil war.
