MAN COUNTING MONEYBAGHDAD, IRAQ - JUNE 04: Livestock markets in the Iraqi capital saw a surge in activity Wednesday, June 4, as residents searched for affordable sacrificial animals ahead of the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha, or the Feast of Sacrifice. Crowds gathered at markets across Baghdad, where Iraqis sought sheep, goats, cattle and cows that fit their budgets amid ongoing economic hardship. The Hajj pilgrimage is the fifth pillar of the Islamic faith – a ritual that must be performed by all Muslims, if financially viable, at least once in their lives. The ritual includes several rituals meant to symbolize the essential concepts of the Islamic faith and to commemorate the trials of the Prophet Abraham and his family. The Hajj culminates with Eid al-Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice, where Muslims worldwide perform Qurbani, the practice of sacrificing livestock during the Eid festival.
