Skegness, United Kingdom - June 03, 2025 A daughter’s touching tribute to her late mother has sparked a wave of kindness as strangers join her mission to help her mum travel the world. Cara Melia, from Oldham, lost her mum Wendy in February. Wendy was just 51 when she died suddenly from heart disease. She had spent her life caring for others and never got the chance to explore the world she dreamed of. While visiting Ingoldmells Beach, Cara placed some of her mum’s ashes in a bottle with a handwritten message, asking anyone who found it to send Wendy back into the sea. The note read, “This is my mum. Throw her back in she’s travelling the world.” Within 12 hours, the bottle washed back onto the beach. Kelly Sheridan, who was on holiday with her children, found it. She posted a video of her son throwing the bottle back into the sea and shared a message online. “Can everyone please share this far and wide in hope it finds Cara from Oldham!!” Kelly wrote. “We found this lovely lady earlier today at Butlins, Skegness beach. She's been thrown back in the sea as requested.. happy travels Cara's Mum.” The video quickly spread across social media and found its way to Cara, who now lives in Royton. “I’d thrown the bottle in hoping she’d have a good travel but within 12 hours she was back on the beach,” Cara said. “Then my best friend rang me and said ‘your mum’s on Facebook.’” Cara thanked Kelly for honoring her request. “So many people wouldn’t have bothered,” she said. “I am hoping she goes further this time and finally gets a chance to travel the world.”
