Berlin, Germany Thousands lined the streets of Berlin’s Friedrichshain district on Sunday, June 8, 2025, as the city hosted the 27th annual Karneval der Kulturen (Carnival of Cultures), a vibrant street parade celebrating cultural diversity, inclusion, and artistic freedom. More than 4,500 participants from 69 cultural groups marched, danced, and drummed their way from Frankfurter Allee at Proskauer Strasse toward Alexanderplatz, ending at the historic Kino International along Karl-Marx-Allee and Berolina Straße. Event organizers estimated crowd numbers could reach as high as 650,000 over the day. This year marked a notable change: for the first time in its nearly three-decade history, the parade moved away from its traditional Kreuzberg and Neukoelln route. Founded in 1996, the Carnival of Cultures takes place annually over the Pentecost weekend and has grown into one of Berlin’s largest open-air festivals. Video by Michael Kuenne/PRESSCOV/SIPA USA
