This is the jaw-dropping moment a student wore a costume inspired by a Philippine mythological creature.

Students showcased the Philippine mythical 'Tikbalang' costume during an environment-themed pageant in Batangas City, the Philippines.

Jerous Gamos, the artist behind the masterpiece, along with his friends, created the astonishing costume of the mythical beast, which is half-horse and half-human, inspired by Philippine folklore.

Footage shows the two students showcasing the centaur-like outfit in front of judges and their classmates.

The white 'Tikbalang' costume worn by Rachel Baltisoto has a headpiece resembling a horse's head, while the black 'Tikbalang' costume worn by Ian Barrameda resembles a horned centaur.

Costume designer Jerous said: 'The unity of animal and human traits in the formation of the Tikbalang is a symbol of the unity of many Filipinos with our beloved environment, from our indigenous roots to the present contemporary times.'

A Tikbalang is a mythical creature from Philippine folklore, often described as having the head and hooves of a horse with the body of a tall, thin man. It is said to lurk in forests and mountains, playing tricks on travellers by leading them astray or causing them to get lost.
