Vegetation fire engulfs fields along Highway 101 in California
A vegetation fire engulfed fields along Highway 101 in California.
Reports said the blaze erupted near Mariposa Reina, sending flames from the centre divider to the beachside on Tuesday, June 17, around 4:19 pm.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene as the fire began to spread rapidly. Heavy traffic was reported in the area as smoke filled the air and visibility decreased.
Fixed-wing and rotary aircraft were deployed to support ground crews. Aerial units dropped fire retardant and water to help contain the blaze.
By 6:27 pm, forward progress of the fire had been halted, with the total burned area estimated at around 30 acres.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
