US: PETA Supporters Storm Field During FIFA Match To Protest Dog Slaughter In Morocco
Philadelphia, United States - June 20, 2025 Chaos erupted at Lincoln Financial Field during the Wydad Casablanca vs. Manchester City match in the FIFA Club World Cup as two PETA supporters stormed the field holding protest signs. The banners read “Morocco – Stop Shooting Dogs and Cats!” and were aimed at exposing the brutal killing of homeless animals in Morocco ahead of the 2030 FIFA World Cup. The demonstrators were swiftly tackled and dragged off the field before thousands of stunned spectators. PETA compared the violent removal to scenes from Morocco, where dogs are being shot in public, burned alive, and dragged to their deaths—all in preparation for the upcoming global tournament. “Dogs are being gunned down, set on fire, and killed in other horrific ways simply for the sake of a soccer tournament,” said PETA Executive President Tracy Reiman. PETA condemned Morocco for failing to honor a 2019 royal decree issued by King Mohammed VI to stop killing stray animals. The agreement has collapsed, and animals continue to suffer extreme cruelty. According to PETA, homeless dogs and cats are being shot, poisoned, caged without food or water, and left to die. PETA is now calling on FIFA to intervene and stop what it calls a mass slaughter conducted in its name. The organization has also urged Cristiano Ronaldo to step in. PETA wants the soccer star, known for his love of dogs, to donate part of his income to support spay and neuter programs in Morocco.
