This is the heartwarming moment a mother cat took her sick kitten to the vet for a check-up.

Footage shows the stray feline gently carrying her unwell baby in her mouth as she made her way to the Sungurlu Pet Veterinary Clinic in Corum, Turkey.

Clinic staff said they were surprised to see the homeless animal appear at their door, seemingly asking for help.

They looked closer and realised the kitten had an eye infection.

A clinic spokesman said: 'The cat's natural maternal instinct to care for her kitten touched our hearts and moved us deeply.'

The kindhearted veterinarians quickly began treating the kitten while the mother cat patiently waited inside the clinic.

Footage shows a rescuer carefully cleaning the kitten's face before applying eye drops to treat the infection.

Authorities later said: 'We're hopeful about the outcome of the treatment provided.'

After the procedure, the mother cat picked up her kitten again and settled in a nearby vacant area, where staff continued to monitor their condition.

The clinic later said the mum cat actually brought four kittens to the clinic for care. They added: 'We're dedicated to helping all animals, whether they're strays or pets.'

Experts say mother cats, like many mammals, are guided by strong maternal instincts. Studies have shown that queens naturally care for and protect their young, especially when they are vulnerable or unwell.
