UNKNOWN LOCATION (JUNE 24, 2025) (USERS MUST CREDIT “ISRAEL DEFENSE FORCES” HANDOUT, MUST NOT OBSCURE LOGO —EDITORIAL USE ONLY) A ceasefire between Israel and Iran came into effect on Tuesday, June 24, following 12 days of cross-border air assaults and missile strikes, officials from both sides confirmed, though tensions remain high after a final barrage of Iranian attacks earlier in the day. Israeli military spokesperson Brigadier General Effie Defrin stated that the ceasefire was implemented under the directive of the political leadership, marking the end of Operation Rising Lion. However, he emphasized that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) remain on high alert to respond to any violations. "Following the directive of the political echelon, the ceasefire went into effect this morning," Defrin said during a press briefing. "The IDF has fully met all the objectives defined in the operation. The Chief of Staff has instructed forces to maintain readiness for a powerful response to any breach of the ceasefire." The announcement came hours after Iran launched approximately 20 missiles toward various locations in Israel, most of which were intercepted by air defenses. Rescue teams reported at least four fatalities and several injuries in the southern city of Beersheba, where one of the strikes hit. A ceasefire between Israel and Iran came into effect at 0400GMT Tuesday following hours of intensified mutual hostilities. The ceasefire was initially announced by Trump, who said it would involve a phased halt to operations, with Iran beginning the ceasefire first and Israel following 12 hours later. A full end to hostilities would then be declared at the 24th hour. Writing by Sibel Uygun
