Doctor removed a clump of hair weighing about one kilogram from the stomach of a woman through surgery in Madhepura, Northern India
On 27 June Friday Bihar A team of doctors at a private hospital in Jajhat Sabaila of Madhepura district successfully removed a clump of hair weighing about one kilogram from the stomach of a woman through surgery. The woman was suffering from stomach pain for the last three years, but was unable to get proper treatment due to financial constraints.
According to information, a 22-year-old woman resident of Baljora village under Triveniganj police station area of Supaul district was suffering from problems like continuous stomach ache, loss of appetite, vomiting and heaviness in the stomach for nearly three years.
Earlier people used to ignore it thinking it to be a minor pain, but for the last four months the woman started having severe pain. Worried, her husband took her to a doctor in Triveniganj. After examination, the doctor gave her medicines and advised her to get a CT scan done. After this, the family took him to Pataliputra Hospital located at Pathraha in Madhepura.
The director and surgeon of the hospital, Dr. Santosh Kumar, said that the woman's CT scan and abdominal USG tests were conducted, which revealed that a large clump of hair had accumulated in her stomach.
In medical terms it is called trichobezoar, which is caused by a rare mental condition.
This condition occurs when a person develops a habit of eating hair. The digestive system is unable to digest hair, due to which the hair collects in the stomach and forms a large and hard clump. If not treated in time, it can even prove fatal.
Seeing the critical condition of the woman, the doctors decided to operate immediately. On June 27, a clump of hair weighing about one kilogram was removed from the woman's stomach through an operation. According to the doctors, this operation is the first and rarest case of its kind in the district.
If some more time had passed, the woman could have died. Currently, the woman's condition is stable and she is in the process of recovery. Doctors have advised the family to get the woman consulted by a mental health specialist so that she does not fall prey to this habit again.
