Firefighters on July 1 tackled a grass fire near Field Farm Road, Rainham, on the UK's hottest day of the year so far.

An area of 1 hectare of shrub land was set ablaze.

The scene near Field Farm Road in Rainham, Kent where eight fire engines and around sixty firefighters are tackling a grass fire as the hottest day of the year comes to an end. One hectare of shrubland was alight. Crews will remain on scene throughout the evening damping down hotspots. A wildfire response vehicle has been deployed at the incident. These vehicles provide off-road capability enabling the transportation of additional equipment closer to fires on open ground. Each vehicle carries approximately 475 litres of water, a backpack blower, ear defenders, beaters and misting lance technology, which allows firefighters to pump water and drive, enabling them to tackle grass fires more quickly and safely. The Brigade is currently trialling four wildfire response vehicles across the capital.Temperatures in central London reached 34.7 degrees earlier today.
