This is the moment a father invited his daughter's stepfather to walk her down the aisle.

Shayna Sweeney, 29, was about to walk down the aisle with her dad Rob McHugh, 60, when he suddenly stopped and went to invite Shayna's stepdad to join them.

Shayna's stepdad Vinny Mauro, 48, has been in her life since she was eight years old and has been described as "a constant, steady presence" throughout her upbringing."

A heartwarming video captures Vinny's surprise as Rob asks him to help walk Shayna down the aisle.

Shayna, a sales account manager from Leesburg, Virginia, said: "The moment was incredibly special and emotional for me. "

"It meant the world to see both my dad and my stepdad standing by my side. "

"Having them both be part of that moment reflected how lucky I am to have two amazing dads who support and respect each other, and who have always been there for me."

Shayna's parents divorced when she was around five years old, after having six children together.

Vinny came into Shayna's life when she was eight and has been an important part of her family ever since.

Shayna said: "My dad has always been there for me with so much love, support and generosity. "

"And Vinny has been a constant, steady presence who stepped in and cared for us as his own."

Rob and Vinny always respected each other throughout Shayna's childhood, understanding the importance of a happy, blended family.

Shayna said: "My dad and stepdad have always had a lot of respect for each other. "

"My mom and dad had six kids together and both eventually remarried. "

"Blending families isn't always easy but my parents and stepparents have worked hard over the years to make it a positive experience for all of us."

Shayna met her now husband Matt Sweeney through a mutual friend in Atlanta in 2018 and the couple got engaged in October 2023.

With the wedding planning underway, Rob raised the idea to Shayna of asking Vinny to join them on the walk down the aisle.

Shayna immediately loved the suggestion and the pair of them planned to surprise Vinny on the wedding day.

Shayna said: "I had always dreamed of including Vinny in that way but didn't want to take away that moment for him."

"The fact that he brought it up meant so much to me. "

"What made it even more special was that we decided together to make it a surprise for my stepdad so that both of my dads would share in that meaningful moment."

"He was very emotional and you could see him trying to hold back tears. "

"It meant a lot to him especially since he doesn't have children of his own."

"I could feel how much love was shared between both my dads that day."
