Gorillas at Twycross Zoo were given blocks of ice to help them cool down during a heatwave that hit large parts of the UK.

Shot on the silverback’s birthday during a sweltering UK heatwave, this video captures the gorilla troop cooling off with a birthday treat. Keepers had suspended ice blocks stuffed with vegetables in their outdoor area. The silverback stuck to his lettuces, but his son Shufai went straight for the frozen challenge. After smashing a block open, he proudly carried a few chunks upright into the gorilla house—only to fumble one straight from his grip. Seconds later, his aunt Asante slammed a water bucket nearby. Outside, Shufai was snapped at by the silverback but stayed focused, returning to wrestle with another hanging ice block. Next door, a bonobo beat him to it, successfully yanking their own block down. The clip ends with Shufai making a face that suggests he may have bitten off more ice than his tooth could handle.
