The system aims to facilitate travel, reduce waiting times, and improve the efficiency of border controls. A ceremony was held at the Tabanovce–Presevo Border Crossing to mark the start of the new system. The event was attended by North Macedonia’s Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski and Serbia’s Interior Minister Ivica Dacic. Speaking at the ceremony, Toshkovski expressed his satisfaction with the implementation of what he called a “different border control system” at the start of the summer season. He said that as the Ministry of Interior, within the scope of their authority, they are implementing a border control system that will allow citizens to pass through more quickly, wait less, and experience improved conditions. Dacic stated that simplifying the border control process benefits both countries, adding that this system eliminates the unnecessary waiting of passengers when exiting the country. The agreement on the joint border crossing system between North Macedonia and Serbia was signed on May 9 in the Serbian capital, Belgrade, by Toshkovski and Dacic. The joint system, referred to as a “One Stop Shop,” aims to facilitate border crossings, reduce wait times, and increase the efficiency of border checks. North Macedonia has already implemented a similar system with Kosovo and announced plans to do the same with Albania. Writing by Ayse Elif Erdis.
