Firemen rescued a resident from a collapsed home in Italy.

Firefighters retrieved Diego Olimpiade, 64, from the rubble of the building following a powerful gas cylinder explosion in Torre del Greco, Naples.

The explosion prompted residents to alert the local fire department.

The Fire Brigade, Carabinieri of Torre del Greco, Municipal Police, Guardia di Finanza, and emergency medical services swiftly responded to the scene.

Footage shows wreckage and debris scattered across the area in the aftermath of the disaster on July 3.

The pensioner was then handed over to medical personnel but later died from his injuries in the hospital.

Local media reported that the gas cylinder exploded on the ground floor of his studio apartment in Largo Benigno.

The building, home to 13 families totalling more than 70 individuals, was evacuated initially to allow authorities to assess the safety and stability of its supporting structures.

Many families were forced to stay temporarily on the street, fearing they might be displaced permanently.

However, after thorough inspections and securing of the area, nearly all residents were able to return as no further risks were found.
