Fireworks factory explosion leaves one person injured
A fireworks factory explosion left one person severely injured in Thailand today.
The blast occurred at around 12:30 pm local time in Phosa, Ang Thong province, sending thick smoke into the air and drawing emergency crews to the scene.
Police Captain Suksan Patsawakang immediately dispatched officers, firefighters, and rescue teams to the site.
When responders arrived, they found worker Nantawat Niyomjit, 59, suffering from severe burns across his body. He was quickly given first aid before being taken to the hospital.
Nantawat's granddaughter, Mint, said he had been working alone at the factory, which stood around 200 metres from their home.
Mint said: 'I heard the sound of an explosion followed by a fire, and later I saw my grandfather walking out of the building, looking weak and calling for help.'
As firefighters sprayed water to contain the flames, a second explosion erupted, sparking panic among nearby residents. It took the team an hour to bring the fire under control, leaving the factory building in ruins.
Police said: 'One victim was severely injured, and the explosion and fire damaged the entire fireworks factory building.
'We will investigate to determine the cause of the explosion and take appropriate legal action.'
Authorities noted that the factory had undergone regular inspections and was equipped with safety measures.
