The group gathered to denounce the university’s decision to suspend student organizer Hadeeqa Arzoo Malik, who has been active in Palestine-related advocacy. Speakers at the rally criticized CUNY for what they called retaliation against student activism and called for the reinstatement of Malik. The event was part of a broader movement in US academic institutions where pro-Palestinian students say they are facing increasing disciplinary actions and restrictions over their campus activities.
