This is the heartwarming moment a pet dog celebrated his first birthday with a homemade vegetable cake.

Roda Villasin baked the carrot cake topped with hard-boiled eggs for Yayay, her white and black Shih Tzu in Cavite, the Philippines.

Footage shows Roda carrying the carrot cake on a plate, with a candle glowing brightly beside the festive dessert on July 9.

She can be heard singing the 'Happy Birthday' song in front of the excitable pooch, staring eagerly at her.

Meanwhile, her sister sat behind Yayay, holding a gold-coloured balloon shaped like the number 1.

Roda then asked the dog to blow the candle, but he kept sticking out his tongue at the mouth-watering treat instead.

Roda said: 'It was his first birthday, and I wanted to make it extra special for him, so I baked a cake using his favourite vegetable—carrots.'
