(SOUNDBITE) (Indonesian) SECRETARY-GENERAL OF FREE PALESTINE NETWORK (FPN), FURQAN AMINI M.CHAN SAYING: "Today's protest is centered in front of the Egyptian Embassy to apply public and political pressure on the Egyptian government to fully open the Rafah Border, because a true brother is one who cares for his neighbor. We know that Egypt is Palestine’s closest neighbor, especially to Gaza. Israel has long attempted to blockade Gaza, we know the people there are starving—not only dying from gunfire, but also from hunger, on a massive scale—and the whole world is witnessing this. It’s unthinkable for someone who claims to be a brother to remain silent while their brother suffers. And even if we are not bound by faith, we are bound by our shared humanity."JAKARTA, INDONESIA - AUGUST 2: Members of the Free Palestine Network (FPN) staged a protest outside the Egyptian Embassy in Jakarta on Saturday, August 2, calling on the Egyptian government to open the Rafah Border Crossing to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza, where civilians face severe shortages amid an ongoing blockade. Demonstrators carried Palestinian flags and household cooking utensils, symbolizing the hunger experienced by Palestinians in Gaza. They chanted, “Stop-stop genocide! Free-free Palestine! Open the Rafah Gate!” throughout the demonstration. Protesters accused the Egyptian government of contributing to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza by closing the Rafah Border Crossing and obstructing the delivery of aid, particularly affecting children and infants. “Today’s protest is centered in front of the Egyptian Embassy to apply public and political pressure on the Egyptian government to fully open the Rafah Border, because a true brother is one who cares for his neighbor,” said Furqan Amini M.Chan, Secretary-General of the Free Palestine Network. “Israel has long attempted to blockade Gaza, we know the people there are starving—not only dying from gunfire, but also from hunger, on a massive scale—and the whole world is witnessing this,” he added. Furqan emphasized the urgency of action, stating, “It’s unthinkable for someone who claims to be a brother to remain silent while their brother suffers. And even if we are not bound by faith, we are bound by our shared humanity.” At least 60,430 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip since October 2023, the Health Ministry said on Saturday. A ministry statement said 98 bodies were brought to hospitals in the last 24 hours, while 1,079 people were injured, taking the number of injuries to 148,722. Many victims are still trapped under the rubble and on the roads as rescuers are unable to reach them, it added. The ministry added that 39 were also killed and 849 injured while trying to get aid, taking the number of Palestinians killed while seeking aid to 1,422, with over 10,067 others wounded since May 27, when the controversial Gaza Humanitarian Foundation began operations. The Israeli army resumed its attacks on the Gaza Strip on March 18, abandoning a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement that took hold in January. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
