Heavy rainfall across in China has prompted evacuations and rescues, as authorities work to mitigate the risks of flooding and landslides. China's national observatory on Monday renewed an orange alert for rainstorms, warning that heavy rainfall will impact vast regions across the country. From 14:00 Monday to 14:00 Tuesday, torrential rain will sweep parts of Qinghai, Gansu, Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Liaoning, Henan, Shandong, Guangxi, Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao, Fujian, Yunnan and Taiwan, according to the National Meteorological Center. In anticipation of heavy rainfall, firefighters and armed police in Hebei Province on Sunday evacuated over 100 residents from Laowopu village in Liudaohe Township due to the risk of geological disasters. Among the evacuees was a woman nearly nine months pregnant and over 20 elderly residents who required assistance. In east China's Fujian Province, rising floodwaters caused by heavy rainfall on Sunday trapped six tourists at the Yeshangu scenic area in Xiamen City. Upon arrival, rescuers found the access route, a ropeway, completely submerged, with water levels reaching one meter in depth. Rescuers carefully scaled the cliff using steel anchors and rebar, eventually reaching the stranded tourists, and brought them to safety in two hours.
