A boy with Down syndrome interrupted his father's long prayer so they could finally eat, drawing laughter from the family.

Jason Shane Almeo was celebrating his 12th birthday with his loved ones and before the meal, his father Pedro Almeo, 52, blessed the food in Iloilo, the Philippines.

Footage shows Jason joining in with both palms pressed together as they said grace.

However, the youngster seemed eager to have a taste of the caramel cake in front of him and tried to distract his dad.

Jason tapped Pedro's tummy and shook him when he would not stop.

When he finally had his father's attention, Jason said ‘Amen', prompting his siblings to burst into laughter as the prayer was cut short.

Sister Honeylyn said: 'It was my younger brother's birthday, and he has Down syndrome. We were all gathered around the table with the cake and food when my dad called us to pray.

'About two minutes into the prayer, my brother suddenly stopped my dad because he was getting bored and it was taking too long. Everyone burst into laughter, even my dad.'
