... GAZA STRIP, PALESTINE - AUG. 8, 2025: Israeli forces opened fire on displaced Palestinians gathered to collect humanitarian aid in central Gaza on Friday, Aug. 8.

Displaced Palestinians struggling with severe hunger rushed to retrieve humanitarian aid parachuted into the Bureij refugee camp area in Deir al-Balah.

The World Food Programme says one in three Palestinians in Gaza goes without food for days, and people are dying daily from starvation. UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini has called recent increases in aid “a diversion and a smokescreen.”

Airdrops also pose safety risks, with some packages falling into the sea or restricted zones, and others causing injuries when parachutes failed.

Israel has been facing mounting outrage over its destructive war on Gaza, where more than 61,200 people have been killed since October 2023. The military campaign has devastated the enclave, which is facing famine.

Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
