Kushiro, Japan - August 07, 2025 Japanese weather officials say damp and warm air flowing toward a weather front has formed bands of heavy rain clouds in Ishikawa Prefecture. They warn that the clouds could also form in adjacent Toyama Prefecture in the afternoon. People in the prefectures are being advised to stay alert for mudslides and flooding in low-lying areas. The Japan Meteorological Agency says a record 331 millimeters of rain fell overnight during a 12-hour period in Kanazawa City in Ishikawa Prefecture. The amount is 1.5 times more than the average monthly rainfall for August. Heavy rain has also continued in the Kyushu region and northern parts of Japan. Fifty-eight millimeters fell in one hour in Aso City of Kumamoto Prefecture and 50 millimeters in Saikai City of Nagasaki Prefecture until noon. SHOTLIST Heavy rain in Kushiro on 7 August.
