A woman moved to Boston from the UK because her life felt "small and boring" and says she feels "safer" in the US than she did in London."

Juliette Jeffcoate, 29, and her husband Ollie, 31, had always dreamed of moving to the US.

And when Ollie, who works in banking, was offered a job in Boston, Massachusetts, with his company the pair took the leap - leaving their life in Chigwell, Essex behind.

Now they love their new lifestyle - and find themselves with more disposable income despite the high cost of living and has half her salary left a month after their rent goes out.

Juliette also feels safer in Boston than she did in London - where she was scared to wear jewellery in public and was had her phone of stolen twice.

Juliette, who works in biotech, said: "Now I have lived here for 19 months I can see now [life in the UK] was boring."

"I thought I was happy but I wasn't. My life used to feel small."

"I feel a million more times safer in Boston."

"In London I'd always turn my engagement ring around. I had two phones stolen."

"It shocks people [that she feels safer] because of the gun laws."

"I could have got stabbed in the UK. I don't walk around thinking I'm going to get shot here."

"Everyone has a comfort level - right now I don't think there is any point in worrying about what could happen." "

Juliette had always enjoyed her life in the UK but says it always felt like "autopilot"."

She said: "I didn't have much going on. The most exciting thing we did was go to Bluewater or Nandos."

"That was really fun to me."

Juliette and Ollie moved in November 2023 after Ollie got his job offer.

The pair, who had been engaged for two years, tied the knot in September so they could their USA visas.

Now they've fallen in love with their new home.

Juliette said: "It's the most beautiful city."

"It's so clean and it's really safe."

Despite the high costs Juliette says her new higher salary means she finds life more affordable than she did in the UK.

She said: "I earn double and my husband earns triple."

It means she can go out for dinner a couple of times a week - despite it costing $200 a pop - and said she would have been "stressing" previously on her UK salary if she had spent this on a meal out."

Juliette said: "It is very expensive. It's $10 for eggs."

"If we go for dinner just me and Ollie it cost $200."

"If I spent that in the UK I'd be stressing."

"I have more disposable income."

"You pay more to live but certain things are a lot cheaper."

"I pay less for medical than I did for national insurance."

"I live a very good life. I'm more than comfortable."

Despite the cold winters Juliette now can't see herself trading life in the US.

She said: "There are such beautiful places in the UK but in Massachusetts I have seen more beautiful places than in the UK."

"There are very distinct seasons - they have the most beautiful fall foliage."

"I don't miss the UK - but I miss the biscuits."

"I mourn my old life sometimes."

Juliette understands that moving to the US might not be for everyone but says it's "great" for her and Ollie."

She said: "If you're a low income earner living in the US is not good."
