1. VARIOUS OF ELEPHANTS WALKING AND GRAZING IN MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE NAROK, KENYA - AUG. 12: Kenya marked World Elephant Day on Tuesday, Aug. 12, an annual event aimed at raising awareness of the threats facing the species, which is listed as endangered on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List.

Footage from the Masai Mara National Reserve showed a family of elephants grazing in the savanna.

Among the largest land mammals on Earth, elephants help maintain ecological balance by shaping vegetation and supporting other wildlife. However, environmental changes, poaching and the ivory trade continue to threaten their survival.

Observed annually since 2012, World Elephant Day advocates for the conservation of elephants and the sustainable management of their habitats.
