5. FLOODWATERS IN NASSER HOSPITAL'S COURTARD KHAN YOUNIS, GAZA, PALESTINE - AUG. 14 ,2025: Israeli airstrikes on the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis have damaged the sewage network, on Thursday, Aug. 14, causing Nasser Hospital to be flooded with wastewater, endangering patients and medical staff.
The hospital’s emergency department was submerged, forcing doctors and nurses to wade through sewage water while treating patients.
Speaking to Anadolu, Khalid Ahmed, head of the hospital’s internal medicine department, said entire wards filled with patients were inundated, including some dependent on oxygen devices.
He stressed that the damaged sewage lines are located in areas marked “red” by the Israeli army, making them inaccessible and impossible to repair, posing what he described as a “direct threat” to both patients and staff.
Warning of the risk of disease and infection outbreaks, he described the situation as “catastrophic” and urged international organizations to intervene immediately
Since launching its onslaught on Gaza on Oct. 7, 2023, Israel has systematically targeted hospitals and the health sector, putting the lives of patients and the wounded at grave risk.
Nasser Hospital is the only medical facility in southern Gaza serving hundreds of thousands of Palestinians.
The Israeli army, rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, has pursued a brutal war in the Gaza Strip since October 2023, killing more than 61,700 Palestinians and devastating its health care system.
Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
