- AUGUST 15, 2025 - Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Friday (Aug. 15) that Moscow would not speculate on the chances of failure in ongoing talks with the United States, after U.S. President Donald Trump estimated the risk at 25%.
“We never make predictions in advance. We know we have arguments and a clear, well-defined position. We will present it,” Lavrov told Russia’s VGTRK broadcaster.
He noted that “a great deal” had already been achieved during visits to Moscow by U.S. presidential envoy Steve Whitkoff, adding that President Vladimir Putin had spoken about the progress.
The Alaska summit, set for Friday, aims to address the Russia-Ukraine war, now in its fourth year.
The one-on-one meeting between Putin and Trump will take place at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city.
