Los Angeles, United States - August 17, 2025 08/16/2025 05:38 pm GMT-0700 SYLMAR, LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Multiple Teslas burned in a massive inferno on Interstate 5, snarling traffic in the Newhall Pass for hours. Los Angeles Fire Department Assistant Chief Luis Aldana described the blaze on-camera. The fire was first reported shortly after 5:30 p.m. Saturday along southbound lanes of Interstate 5, north of the Balboa Boulevard overpass. Multiple fire crews from the Los Angeles City Fire Department and the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the blaze on the freeway. Crews were met with multiple obstacles, including the inherent risk the battery-powered vehicles brought to the scenario, as well as access to water, as the interstate does not have fire hydrants. Firefighters battled the blaze, which burned for several hours. The situation was ongoing as of 7 p.m.
