AHMED SIYAM FROM PALESTINIAN CIVIL DEFENSE AMBULANCE TEAM IN KHAN YOUNIS SPEAKING TO REPORTERS GAZA, PALESTINE - AUGUST 20, 2025: At least 49 civilians, including eight aid seekers, have been killed by Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip since early Wednesday, according to medical sources, as the besieged enclave continues to endure ongoing genocide. In central Gaza, eight Palestinians were killed by Israeli gunfire near an aid distribution point in the northern Nuseirat refugee camp, according to a statement from Al-Awda Hospital. Israeli forces also opened fire on crowds waiting for aid at a distribution point in the Al-Tina area, south of Rafah. The attack left numerous people injured, including children. Scenes from Nasser Medical Complex show injured Palestinians receiving treatment, as well as others who were killed after being targeted by Israeli gunfire, highlighting the scale of the humanitarian crisis. One image shows a mother weeping beside her deceased son, while another shows a man displaying a bullet extracted from a person shot by Israeli forces. On Sunday, Gaza’s Health Ministry reported that the death toll of those killed while searching for food and assistance has reached 1,924, with more than 14,288 wounded since May 27, when the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) began operations. The Israeli-designed aid scheme has been widely criticized as a “death trap” for starving civilians. The Israeli army has pursued its genocide in the Gaza Strip since October 2023, killing at least 62,122 people and injuring more than 156,700 others, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. A ministry statement said three more people died of starvation and malnutrition in the last 24 hours, bringing the famine-related deaths since October 2023 to 269 people, including 112 children. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
