United States - July 30, 2025 Olympic National Forest, Washington – A dramatic video recorded on July 30 shows a terrifyingly large fire with an enormous gray cloud of smoke rising from it near the Mt. Rose Trailhead along the Lake Cushman Corridor. The fire burned on steep, rocky slopes north of Lake Cushman and southeast of the Staircase area of Olympic National Park, spreading across forested areas and challenging terrain. Authorities warned of falling debris along NF Road 2400, leading to road closures. Level 3 “GO” and Level 2 “SET” evacuations were issued, and the north end of Lake Cushman was closed to public use to support firefighting and safety efforts. A Temporary Flight Restriction was enforced over the fire to protect firefighting operations, with officials warning that unauthorized drones or aircraft endangered both personnel and suppression efforts.
