President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and First Lady Olena Zelenska also joined a religious ceremony at St. Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv, where prayers were offered for the country’s armed forces and its future. Ukraine's Independence Day is celebrated annually on Aug. 24 and marks the day when the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic adopted the country's Declaration of Independence.
