4. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) ALGHAD NEWS CHANNEL REPORTER MOHAMMED ABU NAMOUS, SAYING:

Now, with the continued Israeli occupation committing massacres against Palestinians in general and journalists in particular—most recently, the killing of five journalist colleagues yesterday at the Nasser Medical Complex, in front of the cameras and live on air—this massacre, orchestrated and executed by the Israeli occupation in full view of the world, was followed by the assassination of another journalist while he was in his tent in the city of Khan Younis. It is clear that the Israeli occupation is targeting the Palestinian narrative through this fully-fledged massacre. Today's gathering came to knock on the walls of the tank, to tell the whole world that the Palestinian journalist holds the upper hand in telling the truth. If that were not the case, the Israeli occupation would not be targeting them. Since the beginning of the genocide, the Israeli occupation has launched a media arsenal no less powerful than its military arsenal, to deceive the world and portray itself as a "humane army" that only kills militants and their weapons. The Palestinian narrative, through Palestinian journalism, came to show the world that this occupier does not wield its military power except against unarmed innocent civilians—primarily children and women. That is why the Israeli occupation targets journalists who refute this Israeli narrative.”

7. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) JOURNALIST AHMED HARB SAYING:

"We came here today as Palestinian journalists and fellow journalists to condemn the heinous crime that our colleagues were subjected to yesterday at Nasser Hospital. Yesterday, we bid farewell to six of our fellow journalists as a result of a direct targeting of the media crews working at Nasser Hospital. We strongly condemn and denounce this horrific crime. We came today to remind the world that the Palestinian journalist must be protected under international law, international humanitarian law, and the Fourth Geneva Convention. We affirm that we will continue our work as Palestinian journalists. We will continue to convey the truth and the Palestinian narrative. We are fully aware that this narrative, this message, and the images coming out of Gaza shake the occupying Israeli state and disturb it deeply. Nevertheless, we will continue this work and we will keep conveying the truth — even if it costs us our lives."

KHAN YOUNIS, GAZA STRIP, PALESTINE - AUGUST 26: Palestinian journalists held a protest in Gaza City on Tuesday, Aug. 26, to denounce the killing of their colleagues a day earlier in an Israeli military attack on the Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis and to call for the protection of members of the press.

The demonstrators carried banners that read, "Stop Killing Journalists" and "Journalism is Not a Crime," voicing their grief and anger over one of the deadliest single incidents for media workers in the ongoing conflict.

Speaking to Anadolu Agency at the protest, journalist Mohammed Abu Namous accused Israel of deliberately targeting the Palestinian narrative.

"Now, with the continued Israeli occupation committing massacres against Palestinians in general and journalists in particular... this massacre was orchestrated and executed by the Israeli occupation in full view of the world," Abu Namous said.

"It is clear that the Israeli occupation is targeting the Palestinian narrative through this fully-fledged massacre," he added.

Another journalist Ahmed Harb said “We came today to remind the world that the Palestinian journalist must be protected under international law, international humanitarian law, and the Fourth Geneva Convention.”

Harb also stated that Palestinian journalist will continue to work in Gaza Strip, adding that “We will continue to convey the truth and the Palestinian narrative. We are fully aware that this narrative, this message, and the images coming out of Gaza shake the occupying Israeli state and disturb it deeply.”

The protest was a direct response to Monday's twin airstrikes on the hospital complex in the southern Gaza Strip. According to health officials, the attack killed at least 20 people.

The incident unfolded when an initial strike hit the top floor of a building at the Nasser Hospital. As journalists and rescue teams rushed to the scene to help the wounded, a second strike hit the exact same location 15 minutes later, resulting in numerous casualties among first responders and media personnel.

Among the journalists killed in the attack were Reuters journalist Hussam al-Masri; Associated Press staffer Mariam Abu Dagga; Al Jazeera's Mohammed Salam; photojournalist Moaz Abu Taha; and Ahmad Abu Aziz from Quds Feed. Another Reuters journalist, Hatem Khaled, was wounded in the attack.

Graphic videos from the scene, broadcast live by AlGhad TV and later verified by news agencies, showed the moments leading up to the second strike, with civil defense workers and journalists visibly on site, followed by footage of the devastating aftermath.

The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) states that at least 193 Palestinian journalists have been killed since the conflict began on Oct. 7, 2023, a number that exceeds the global total of journalist fatalities over the previous three years.
