Mourners held a funeral for the killed health worker

The Israeli army targeted Hatem Abu Saleh with an unmanned aerial vehicle in an area under Israeli control. His body was taken to Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, where he worked as a medical staff member.

Abu Saleh’s father said his son had taken leave from work to prepare for his son’s wedding, noting that he had planned to set up a tent for the ceremony.

Hakima Jundeh, a colleague at Nasser Hospital, said Abu Saleh continued working throughout the war despite his home being bombed and being forced to shelter in schools, describing his death as a major loss for the hospital.

Nasser Hospital Nursing Department Director Dr. Mohammed Sakr said Abu Saleh had never turned away from serving the Palestinian people and that colleagues gathered to bid farewell to a devoted health worker.

Since a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas was announced on Oct. 10, 2025, Israel has killed more than 400 Palestinians in repeated violations of the agreement.

Israel has also continued to violate a UN Security Council resolution adopted in November 2025 calling for a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza, unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid and the reconstruction of the territory.

The Israeli army has killed more than 71,000 victims, most of them women and children, and injured over 171,000 in a brutal offensive since October 2023 that has left Gaza in ruins.
