Palestinians in Gaza turn to charities for food amid Israeli blockade
SHOTLIST:

2. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) PALESTINIAN WOMAN WAITING AT FOOD LINE, ZEHAR HAMDAN, SAYING:
[...]
“I have five daughters and a son, and I live with seven family members. I come to food distribution point because the situation in Gaza is unbearable. There is a severe famine in Gaza. There is no food, and even if there is food, it is very expensive — rice is expensive, sugar is expensive, flour is expensive, everything is expensive.
People go to food distribution point to eat because it is the only place they can rely on. Everyone in Gaza comes here early in the morning to get a plate of food — a plate of rice or lentils — for their children.”

10. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) ZEHAR HAMDAN, SAYING:
[...] "From morning, we wander looking for food and water. We try whatever we can to save water and food for our children. Here in Gaza, we live in extremely difficult conditions, and people risk their lives just to avoid starvation—it’s not normal."
[...] "Every displacement meant no bed, no food, no drink—nothing. We try to care for our children with whatever we can get—rice, lentils, and whatever is available."
[...] "My oldest is five years old, my youngest is five months. They cannot walk far, cannot go anywhere to get food on their own. We, as parents, struggle to feed them.
We plead for the world to stop the war in Gaza. We want peace urgently. Our children, our loved ones, everyone is suffering; many have died. Nothing is left."

Families have been struggling to find enough food due to the blockade imposed by Israel on the Gaza Strip since March 2.
A report published on August 22 by the UN-supported Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) stated that there is a severe shortage of food in Gaza.
A ministry statement said the new fatalities brought the famine-related deaths since October 2023 to 317, including 121 children.
Zehar Hamdan, like countless other Palestinians, takes the roads to charity distribution points to feed her six children and prevent them from starving.
The Palestinian mother said the only way she can provide her children with food is through food distribution points, where she has to wait in line from the early hours of the morning for a pot of lentil soup or rice.
Having been displaced many times before, Hamdan says she is exhausted from the constant search for food.
"Every displacement meant no bed, no food, no drink—nothing. We try to care for our children with whatever we can get—rice, lentils, and whatever is available," she told.
The Palestinian woman pleaded for an immediate end to the war in Gaza, saying they urgently wanted peace.
Deaths in the Gaza Strip from starvation are soaring, as local and international groups saying Israel is using “hunger and thirst as a weapon.”
Four more Palestinians, including two children, died of malnutrition and starvation in the Israel-blockaded Gaza Strip in the last 24 hours, the Health Ministry said on Thursday.
A ministry statement said the new fatalities brought the famine-related deaths since October 2023 to 317, including 121 children.
The new deaths came as Gaza’s Government Media Office warned that aid deliveries remain far below urgent needs.
It said only 467 trucks entered the enclave over the past five days out of 3,000 planned, with most of the 2,654 trucks that arrived in the past month looted “with Israeli complicity.”
Israel has kept all crossings into Gaza closed since March 2, blocking the entry of humanitarian aid despite thousands of relief trucks waiting at the border. In recent weeks, Tel Aviv has allowed in only limited quantities of assistance, which officials say do not cover even the minimum needs of the territory’s 2.4 million population.
Israel has killed nearly 63,000 Palestinians in Gaza since October 2023. The military campaign has devastated the enclave, which is facing famine.
Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
