Visitors included fashion figures such as Donatella Versace, business leader John Elkann, Milan’s mayor Giuseppe Sala, Italian Fashion Chamber president Carlo Capasa, and Olimpia Milano basketball coach Ettore Messina. Oscar-winning directors Gabriele Salvatores and Giuseppe Tornatore also attended.
The chapel will remain open until 6 p.m. on Sunday. Armani’s funeral will take place on Monday in a private ceremony in his birthplace of Piacenza, about 60 km south of Milan.
Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani, founder of the luxury brand carrying his name, has died at the age of 91, the company announced Thursday.
Armani passed away "peacefully surrounded by his loved ones," the statement said, adding that he remained active in his work until his final days.
He founded the Giorgio Armani brand in 1975, expanding it from fashion to lifestyle and design.
His family and employees will continue leading the company "while respecting and maintaining his values," the statement added.
