Carrying Palestinian flags and banners with messages such as “Stop the genocide,” “Free Palestine,” and “This is not a war, it is a genocide,” protesters gathered at the iconic Place de la République in the French capital. Chanting slogans including “Gaza, Paris is with you” and “Long live the Palestinian resistance,” the crowd demanded that Israel halt its ongoing attacks in the besieged enclave. Demonstrators also urged the French government to impose sanctions on Israel and called for boycotts of international companies supporting Israel. Families attended the protest with their children, while one activist symbolically brought two white doves to represent peace, and another held a bloodstained press vest in memory of the 248 journalists killed by Israel. To highlight the severe shortages faced by Gazans, some participants carried symbolic sacks of flour on their shoulders and banged empty pots. To draw attention to Gaza’s dire shortages, some participants banged empty pots and carried symbolic sacks of flour on their shoulders. The demonstration also included French lawmaker Gabrielle Cathala of the France Unbowed (LFI) party, who had been aboard the Gaza-bound humanitarian ship Handala that attempted to deliver aid in July before being seized by Israel. Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza entered day 700 on Friday, with Israel having killed over 64,300 Palestinians. The military campaign has devastated the enclave, which is facing famine. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
