Thousands of protesters marched through central London on Saturday in one of the UK's largest pro-Palestinian demonstrations this year, demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and condemning the UK government's support for Israel amid soaring Palestinian casualties. This wave of protests has surged across UK cities in recent weeks, drawing diverse coalitions of activists, faith groups, and concerned citizens into coordinated weekly mobilizations. Ben Jamal, director of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, said the scale of the turnout reflected growing public pressure on UK leaders to rethink their stance. Other protesters expressed deep indignation, calling the situation in Gaza a clear "genocide" unfolding in full view of the world. Meanwhile, police arrested nearly 300 people the same day during a central London protest in support of Palestine Action, a group recently designated as a terrorist organization by the UK government. According to the Metropolitan Police, charges included assaulting officers and expressing support for a proscribed group. The arrests follow a larger crackdown on August 9, when 532 demonstrators were detained at a similar protest. In July, Members of Parliament voted to proscribe Palestine Action after its members breached Royal Air Force Brize Norton in June. The Palestinian death toll in Gaza has risen to 64,368, with over 160,000 others injured, since the Israel-Hamas conflict erupted on Oct 7, 2023, according to Gaza's health authorities on Saturday.
