This is the spectacular moment a geyser erupted from the ground, stunning tourists at Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming.

Dramatic footage shows the Steamboat Geyser, the tallest active geyser in the world, shooting jets of water and white vapour up to 300 feet into the air.

Visitors applauded as the roaring water column rose skyward, sending billowing clouds of steam through the area.

Steamboat Geyser, located in Norris Geyser Basin, is the tallest active geyser in the world. Its eruptions are sporadic and entirely unpredictable, thrilling park visitors and scientists alike.

The geyser entered a highly active phase in 2018 lasting through 2022, with more than 40 eruptions recorded in both 2019 and 2020.
