Thai and Cambodian officials meet at border to resolve territorial clashes
Thai and Cambodian officials met at the border to resolve territorial conflicts.
Footage shows the delegates arriving in helicopters for the General Border Committee (GBC) meeting in Koh Kong, Cambodia, on September 10.
The meeting was co-chaired by acting Thai Defence Minister General Nattaphon Narkphanit and Cambodian Defence Minister General Tea Seiha.
The Thai defence chief said both sides have agreed on military de-escalation at the border, clearing landmines, cracking down on Cambodia-based scam networks, and partially reopening border crossings.
Committees will also be formed in the following weeks to discuss disarmament, mine clearance, and online scam suppression.
He added: 'Beyond weapon withdrawal, a key achievement is the agreement on concrete action plans for landmine clearance and online scam suppression. These issues Cambodia had not previously addressed.
'Thailand and Cambodia cannot move away from each other. It is imperative that both countries resolve issues peacefully so that peace may return to the border areas and the people can once again live their lives in normalcy and peace.'
The next GBC meeting will be held in Thailand in 30 days.
A bloody military confrontation flared in long-disputed border areas as Thailand and Cambodia accused each other of instigating the violence on July 24.
The Thai army claimed the clash began when six armed Cambodian soldiers approached a Thai outpost after a drone was heard near a disputed Khmer temple. Thai troops said they shouted warnings and claimed the Cambodians opened fire first.
However, Cambodia's Defence Ministry accused Thailand of provoking the violence, saying its forces acted in self-defence.
Officials said that dozens of people have been killed and more than 300,000 displaced on both sides of the border.
Both sides have reached a shaky truce following talks facilitated by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
