Armed police arrest Nigerian 'drug trafficker' on Thai Full Moon Party island
This is the dramatic moment police arrested a Nigerian suspected drug trafficker in Thailand.
Ugowma, 38, reportedly sold to tourists on the island of Koh Phangan, which hosts the Full Moon Party.
Police monitored his movement following intelligence from undercover agents that he was supplying banned substances.
Officers intercepted Ugowma's car as he was driving on January 14. But instead of surrendering, the alleged smuggler locked himself inside his white Mitsubishi Mirage, prompting the cops to use force.
Footage shows police smashing the car window with a baton as they yelled at him to get out. He later opened the door and was cuffed by law enforcers.
A search of his car allegedly found 1.18 grammes (0.04 ounces) of cocaine, 50 baht in cash, and a mobile phone containing a QR code linked to the bank account of a Thai woman from Roi Et.
Police Colonel Naraphon Watthanakorntawee of Tourist Police Division 3 said Ugowma had previously been detained while delivering 240,000 baht (5,713 GBP) of cocaine in March 2025. He was released on bail but reportedly went into hiding before his second arrest.
Ugowma was charged with possession, sale, and use of category 2 narcotics.
The police boss said: ‘The suspect confessed to all charges and admitted he was the person named in the arrest warrant.
‘He was released on bail before returning to Koh Phangan but he failed to report as scheduled. He later continued selling narcotics to foreigners on Koh Phangan.'
Officers handed Ugowma over to the inquiry officer at Koh Phangan station for further legal action.
Koh Phangan is known as a ‘hippie paradise' for its serene beaches, spiritual retreats and bohemian communities drawn to its natural beauty. However, the island is also known for its drug-filled Full Moon Parties, giving holidaymakers easy access to illegal substances.
Authorities regularly crack down on drug use amid concerns over safety and crime.
