BARCELONA, SPAIN - SEPTEMBER 11: The traditional tribute to Rafael Casanova marked the start of Catalonia’s National Day in Barcelona on Thursday, September 11. Institutional representatives and social organizations laid floral offerings at the monument throughout the morning.

PSC leader Salvador Illa attended the event to pay tribute, stressing a message of coexistence and respect for Catalonia’s social plurality. Parliament Speaker Josep Rull led the institutional delegation on behalf of the chamber, highlighting Casanova’s enduring symbolism in the defense of Catalan institutions. FC Barcelona also took part in the tribute, offering flowers on behalf of the club and maintaining its tradition of participation in the September 11 commemoration.

The demonstration organized by the Catalan National Assembly (ANC) drew around 28,000 people in central Barcelona under the banner of demanding independence and calling for strategic unity within the pro-independence movement. Meanwhile, the pro-independence left held its own march in the city, with around 6,500 people convened by the CUP and allied groups in a rally marked by anti-capitalist and combative messages.
