Mexico - September 15, 2025 The Washington Volcanic Ash Advisory Center reported an ash plume from Popocatepetl that reached an estimated 21,000 ft (about 6,400 m), equivalent to flight level 210, and was moving northwest at roughly 10 knots. The bulletin (FVXX23), transmitted at 10:17 UTC on 15/09/25 from KNES and issued at 1015Z as advisory 2025/379, notes the ash observation time at 0951Z. Information sources cited include GOES-19 satellite data and numerical weather prediction models. Forecasts in the advisory show the ash cloud persisting through the +6, +12 and +18 hour forecasts, with model guidance indicating a general west to southwest drift through T+18. Multiple emissions were observed extending up to about 40 nautical miles from the summit. The report lists the volcano’s summit elevation as 17,693 ft (5,393 m).
