Boyfriend fakes a basketball injury to make surprise proposal to partner
A boyfriend faked an injury during a basketball game to make a surprise proposal to his partner.
Rostom Valdez planned the stunt with his teammates, with even their opponents joining in on the plan in Tarlac, the Philippines.
Footage shows Rostom pretending to crash into another player before falling to the floor clutching his leg.
His girlfriend, Alliah Rose Rosario, rushed to his aid, worried about how badly he was hurt.
However, Rostom suddenly knelt and faced Alliah before a microphone was handed to him so he could ask for her hand in marriage.
Rostom said: 'That day we had a basketball game, and I thought it would be the perfect time to make the proposal. But the organiser announced the game would be cancelled due to heavy rain. When the downpour stopped, I asked if we could do the surprise, and everyone agreed.'
Alliah Rose said yes, and Rostom gave her a bouquet of flowers.
The crowd cheered for the pair to kiss before Rostom placed the ring on Alliah's hand. Even louder cheers erupted when the couple hugged.
Rostom added: 'When the game started, I was really nervous that my plan might not succeed. In the second quarter, with one minute left, I carried out the act of pretending to be injured.
'Just as planned, the players and coach quickly rushed to my side. At that moment, Alliah also came over, and that was when I made the proposal.'
In the Philippines, engagements are seen as a formal promise of marriage. They are often celebrated publicly and viewed as a step before starting a family. Modern influences and social media have also made proposals more elaborate.
