Declared a marine reserve in 1983 by the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency, the park was established to protect both marine and land ecosystems. Known for its rich coral formations and diverse marine life, it also includes the Tiran and Sataya islands, popular with diving tours. To protect fragile coral reefs, anchoring is prohibited along Egypt’s Red Sea coast. Instead, boats are secured to pre-installed mooring buoys, helping preserve the ecosystem and maintaining Ras Mohammed’s reputation as a world-renowned site for biodiversity.
