Persistent downpours triggered a large-scale mudslide in Yanjin County of southwest China's Yunnan Province on Friday, prompting the evacuation of villagers from 12 nearby households. Heavy rains lashed Yanjin from Tuesday to Thursday, with maximum precipitation reaching nearly 200 millimeters. After a mudslide alert was issued, local authorities stepped up patrols in high-risk areas. Upon spotting sporadic rockfalls near Chahu Village, the responders immediately mobilized to evacuate all 12 households in the area. Thanks to the timely response, the mudslide -- with an estimated volume of around 100,000 cubic meters -- caused no casualties. Damage assessment and cleanup efforts are underway, while access to high-risk areas has been restricted. Patrol teams remain on duty around the clock, as lighter rainfall is expected to continue in the coming days.
