Storyline: The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) deployed its third division, the 36th, to Gaza City as operations widen across the region, the military said Sunday. According to the IDF, after about two weeks of intensified preparations, the 36th Division began moving into Gaza City as part of a ground operation called “Gideon’s Chariots B,” aimed at broadening the scope of the offensive. Units under the 162nd and 98th Divisions have already been operating in Gaza City, advancing further into the area. The 36th Division entered the city on Sunday, joining the ground offensive and adding to the ongoing expansion of military operations in the enclave. The military added that in recent days, under the guidance of a division-level fire command, it had struck dozens of targets across the Gaza Strip to facilitate the entry of ground forces. IDF spokesperson Effie Defrin said in a video statement Sunday evening that more than 550,000 civilians had left Gaza City and moved south. Defrin said the IDF has moved deeper into Gaza City, targeting Hamas’s main stronghold. The Palestinian death toll in the Gaza Strip has risen to 65,283, with 166, 575 injured since the conflict between Hamas and Israel erupted on October 7, 2023, Gaza's health authorities said in a statement on Sunday. The Israeli military attacked multiple residential buildings in Gaza City on Sunday, killing 31 people and forcing many to flee, according to the statement.
