KHAN YOUNIS, GAZA, PALESTINE - SEPTEMBER 23, 2025: As Israel's blockade and genocide in the Gaza Strip continue unabated, Israeli forces once again opened fire on aid-seeking Palestinians in the southern city of Rafah, killing several civilians.

Meanwhile, another Palestinian baby died of starvation and malnutrition as a result of Israel's starvation policy.

The bodies of those killed in the attack, along with the baby, were brought to Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, where grieving Palestinians gathered to mourn their loved ones, bidding them tearful, heart-wrenching farewells.

Gaza’s Health Ministry said Sunday that the total number of Palestinians killed while seeking aid has risen to 2,523, with more than 18,473 others wounded since October 7.

Many aid groups and international organizations have called the current Israeli-approved aid system a death trap, with hundreds of starving Palestinians killed by Israel while seeking aid.

Since March 2, Israeli authorities have completely closed all Gaza border crossings, pushing the territory’s 2.4 million population into famine.

Famine has been confirmed in northern Gaza, and is projected to expand to Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis in central and southern Gaza by the end of September, according to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC).

Since the IPC declared famine in Gaza, 164 people have starved to death, including 32 children, the ministry added.

Since Oct. 7, 2023, Israel has been carrying out a genocide in Gaza, which has so far killed over 65,300 Palestinians, most of them women and children.

The onslaught has displaced hundreds of thousands alongside a blockade on humanitarian aid that has led to famine and claimed the lives of at least 442 Palestinians, including 147 children.
