SHOTLIST: - DARAA, SYRIA (SEPTEMBER 25, 2025) (ANADOLU - ACCESS ALL) 1. VARIOUS DRONE SHOTS OF ARID LANDS IN DARAA AND YARMOUK REGION 2. VAARIOS OF BARREN LANDSDARAA, SYRIA - SEPTEMBER 25: Agriculture in southern Syria, known as one of the country’s major food reservoirs, has become unsustainable due to drought, climate change, Israel’s occupation of some water resources, and years of conflicts. Daraa province and the Yarmouk Basin, considered the country’s food storehouse, are experiencing a collapse in agricultural production under the combined impact of drought and war. Across the country, rainfall in 2024-2025 has not even reached one-third of the average, while drying dams, depleted underground water, and damaged farmland have left farmers desperate. Meanwhile, after the fall of the Baath regime, Israel, having taken control of the dams in Quneitra, cut off water to the dams in Daraa, severely limiting farmers’ irrigation capabilities. The reduction in rainfall and Israel’s intervention in water resources has caused the Cubeyliyye, Abidin, and Saham al-Jawlan dams in Daraa to dry up completely. The drought has hit hardest those living in rural areas who depend on agriculture for their livelihoods. Local residents, noting that their sources of income and means of survival are disappearing one by one, said they expect authorities to produce urgent solutions.
