Orbán highlighted the symbolic and practical importance of the bridge, recalling its destruction during both world wars and its role today as a link between the two nations. He said the site serves as a reminder of the cost of imperial wars and underscored Hungary’s commitment to peace.
The two leaders also used the occasion to exchange views on current European politics and the war in Ukraine. Orban criticized the EU’s stance on the conflict, warning that “Brussels has become a war project” and stressing that Hungary will not be forced into a path that risks repeating past mistakes.
The two leaders affirmed their commitment to strengthening Hungarian-Slovak cooperation, with Orban proposing the construction of a second bridge to further enhance cross-border ties.
