VARIOUS OF DEMONSTRATORS MARCHING, CHANTING SLOGANS, CARRYING PALESTINIAN FLAGS, BANNERS AND GIANT KEFFIYEHS MADRID, SPAIN - OCTOBER 4, 2025: Hundreds of thousands of people filled the streets in Madrid, Barcelona, and other Spanish cities on Saturday to protest Israeli genocide in Gaza and the attack on the Gaza-bound Global Sumud Flotilla. Organized by civil society groups and left-leaning political parties, the demonstrations were part of a wave of anti-Israel protests sweeping across the globe in recent days. In Madrid, more than 400,000 people walked from Atocha Station to Callao Square, waving Palestinian flags in solidarity with the flotilla. The protests drew broad support from across Spanish society, including educators, healthcare workers, and other sectors. Demonstrators called on Spain and other European countries to end complicity in Israel’s apartheid and genocide, demanding an immediate halt to arms trade and diplomatic relations, an end to the colonization of Palestinian territories, and strict adherence to international law. Banners read “End the Genocide in Palestine” and “Resist Colonialism, Genocide, Apartheid, and Occupation”, while protesters chanted slogans including “Netanyahu the Killer”, “From the River to the Sea, Palestine Will Win”, and “Free Palestine.” Speaking to Anadolu, retired Spanish protester Carmen said, “I am here because this is the greatest injustice in the world. The killers try to present themselves as innocent. There are no words to describe what they are doing in Gaza. Just when you think they have run out of poison, you realize they have more. The most ruthless event of the 21st century is happening in Gaza.” Since October 2023, Israeli genocide has killed nearly 66,300 Palestinians, most of them women and children. The UN and rights groups have repeatedly warned that the enclave is being rendered uninhabitable, with starvation and disease spreading rapidly.
